Monthly statistics on sales of alcoholic beverages in January–April 2024 have been published. Statistics for May–August will be published by the end of this year and statistics for September–December in 2025. The goal is to publish the statistics on a monthly basis from the beginning of next year.

The statistics on the sale and distribution of alcoholic beverages published by the National Supervisory Authority for Welfare and Health (Valvira) include deliveries of alcoholic beverages by holders of production and wholesale licences to restaurants and for retail. Sales of beverages containing more than 2.8 per cent and at most 80 per cent of ethyl alcohol by volume are included in the sales and distribution statistics. Licence holders must report their product-specific sales monthly to Valvira. At the end of April 2024, there were 224 holders of a production licence for alcoholic beverages and 537 holders of a wholesale licence. Valvira collects, examines and analyses data from the perspective of supervision. Data are saved in the alcohol trade register maintained by Valvira.

Valvira opened the new alcohol trade register on 17 April 2023. It changed the way how licence holders submit data. Statistical reports have also been transferred to a new reporting system. The statistics for 2024 were changed as a result of the new retail limit for alcoholic beverages: in the statistics on distribution channels, the limit was changed from the previous 4.7 and 5.5 per cent by volume to 5.5 and 8.0 per cent by volume.

The Finnish Institute for Health and Welfare (THL) compiles official annual statistics on total consumption using data available in Valvira’s alcohol trade register. Check the previous year’s statistics on the THL website (in Finnish).
