Health Protection

Valvira directs the implementation and supervision of national legislation on health protection. The population's health is protected, for example, by monitoring and investigating adverse health effects of tap water, bathing water, housing, public spaces and waste, and by influencing land use to prevent adverse health effects.

Towards the new Finnish Supervisory Agency

The steering of the implementation and enforcement of the Health Protection Act by municipal health protection authorities will be transferred to the new national Finnish Supervisory Agency on 1 January 2026.

Guideline for the assessment of water quality risks in buildings’ water systems – to prevent the spread of Legionella bacteria
