General health protection
Health protection means protecting the health of the population and individuals by monitoring and examining the healthiness of drinking and swimming water and indoor conditions. The health protection perspective and expertise must be considered in decision making related to the healthiness of the living environment.
Valvira directs the implementation and supervision of national health protection legislation. Municipal supervisory units are responsible for investigating suspected health detriments and offer general guidance and advice. Regional state administrative agencies direct and monitor health protection in their territories.
The national health protection control programme drawn up by Valvira guides health protection control in the municipalities. The goal of the programme is to harmonise control practices nationwide and contribute to securing a healthy living environment for people through priorities that guide supervision. You can find the control programme at the end of this page.
